Overview
Moritelo Skin Care is a locally produced natural skin care brand that manufactures products for the effective reduction of acne prone skin problems, pigmentation and uneven skin toned conditions. The business is owned by Ms Onneile Khwene, a young, black woman who holds Honors degree Qualification in Supply Chain Management and Programming in Logistics Management from University of Johannesburg. The business was inspired by the owner’s personal experience with skin problems due to stress and anxiety and the lack of effective solutions in the market, she then created concoction with food compounds from the kitchen that gave her solution for her skin problem, and that’s how the journey of Moritelo started. Because she did not have any technical knowledge for the cosmetics industry she saw the need to understand the cosmetic industry and the regulations and she then went to North West University to complete a cosmetics formulation small course that assisted her to understand the basics of formulations and effective ingredients that compact acne and pigmentation conditions.
Moritelo is derived from the Setswana language and culture. “Moritelo” which means “Mixing” referring to the mixing process of various ingredients to create its products. She participated in a competition called Coach Lab at the Innovation Hub, and that was a turning point as she was selected to be part of the Bio science accelerator incubation program that came with assistance in business mentorship. Today, Moritelo Skin Care offers a range of ten products including cleansers, oils, serums and creams that cater for skin problems.
The products are formulated with natural ingredients and organic ingredients such as marula, aloe Vera, niacin amides and Kalahari melon seed oil that is extracted from the Kalahari melon fruit. The oil is sourced from local farmers in the North West province, this highlights the level of commitment of the owner to use indigenous ingredients and natural extracts to offer unique and effective products while contributing local farmers in the rural areas.
